Ruminating.
Last week I attended a College Board APSI - Advanced Placement Summer Institute. It was amazingly beneficial, particularly since I taught AP last year for the first time and now could ask some really concrete questions. But my favorite part was that it was lesson based, meaning we walked through the instructor's lessons to see his main teaching objectives and subsequently that meant I got to look at literature deeply and like a student. I really miss that. It sparked this fire in me to look at things differently within words, and I really want to preserve that. I hope that the spark was enough to get me through the rest of the summer because I think teaching creative writing all year will really help stoke the flame, so to speak. I also just finished reading Americanah, which has such beautiful language, so that surely helps too.
