Shop local and shopping for deals.

I love getting a goal deal on something. I affectionately call myself a Craigslist Stalker because once I want something,  I scour CL every few hours on my phone until I find it.  This summer I've scored a tricycle ($10), a bike trailer ($40, never used), and a toddler outdoor climbing structure ($10). I almost always bargain, which I completely think is a dying American trait. But bargaining is big on both sides of my family, so a bargainer I am.

But there are some things I don't mind paying full price for, and that's mostly because it supports a locally owned business - we tend to buy shoes at a local family owned store, and I've bought most of my cloth diapers at a similar place. I prefer to grocery shop at the nearby non-chain store because I know it supports individuals and not a corporation. I buy gas almost exclusively from stations in my immediate community to support them. We buy as much as we can from our farmers market, from breads to pasta to veggies to eggs. Of course we can't only do these things, but we try.

I found this idea, the 3/50 project, on buying from local brick and mortars a few months ago and it's really stuck with me.  An awesome idea!
